Privacy Policy
StudyLapse · Last updated 28 August 2026
StudyLapse keeps your study footage on your iPhone. We do not run servers that receive it, we cannot watch it, and we could not hand it to anyone if we were asked.
This policy explains what the app stores on your device, what happens when you buy StudyLapse Pro, and the choices you have. It applies to the StudyLapse iOS app published by XonLabs ("we", "us").
We do not collect any personal information. StudyLapse has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics or advertising code. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.
What stays on your device
Everything below is written to your iPhone's own storage. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else unless you choose to share it yourself.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Timelapse video and the short clip recorded when you open a drink | They are the recording you asked the app to make |
| The name you type during setup | It greets you, and it is printed on the slate of each session |
| Your subjects and their colours | To label sessions and colour your timelines |
| Session records — start time, duration, goal, checkpoints, phone pickups | To build your log, calendar, stats and reels |
| Charge balance and which drinks you own | To run the in-app economy |
This data is removed when you delete the app. It may also be included in your own iPhone backups if you have enabled iCloud Backup or back up to a computer — those backups belong to you and are governed by Apple's terms, not ours.
Camera and photos
- Camera. The app asks for camera access to record your timelapse and the opening clip. It records video only — no audio is captured at any point. Recording happens on your device and the resulting file is written to the app's private storage.
- Photo library. The app asks only for permission to add to your photo library, so it can save a finished reel there when you tap save. It has no ability to read, browse or scan your existing photos.
- Sharing. When you share a reel, iOS presents its own share sheet and hands the file to the app you pick. What happens to it after that is governed by that app's privacy policy, not this one.
Purchases
If you buy StudyLapse Pro, the payment itself is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your address, or your Apple Account details.
Whether you have an active subscription is checked on your device against the receipt Apple issues, and is stored on your device. There is no third-party payments or subscription service in the app.
Apple gives us sales and download reports for the App Store. These are aggregated — they tell us how many people subscribed in a country on a given day, never who. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.
If you claim a free membership
Claiming a free membership is optional and happens on a form on our website, not in the app. If you use it, you give us:
- your email address, so we can send you the code;
- the platform you posted on and your handle there;
- a link to your public post, and a screenshot of it.
We use these only to check the claim and send the code. The form is run by Tally and responses are stored in Google Sheets; both act on our instructions. We keep a claim for as long as the code is valid and then for a year, so we can answer questions about a code that was issued.
We do not add you to a mailing list, and we will never ask you for your Apple Account, your password, or any payment details — a code is all that is needed, and anyone who asks you for more is not us.
What we do not do
- We do not have accounts, logins or passwords.
- The app does not collect your name, email address or phone number. The only time we ever see an email is if you write to us, or use the free-membership form described above.
- The app contains no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Your footage is never uploaded to us. We have nowhere to put it.
Children
StudyLapse is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Because your study data lives only on your device, you already hold it: deleting the app deletes it, and you can change your name and subjects at any time in Settings.
Depending on where you live — including the UK, the EEA, and states such as California — you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information a company holds about you. We hold none: there is nothing for us to look up, export or erase, because none of it reaches us. If you believe otherwise, write to us and we will look into it.
Keeping it
Everything the app stores is kept on your device until you delete it or delete the app. We keep nothing, because we receive nothing.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page, and where the change is significant we will say so in the app.
